Guardian of the Shores

As an artist, I’ve been drawn to the unique role lifeguard towers play in the lives of beachgoers. Guardian of the Shores is my tribute to Lifeguard Tower 5C, which stands as a symbol of safety, resilience, and the connection between lifeguards and the sea. While this tower is part of the iconic landscape of Coronado Beach, the more I learned about it, the more I realized that lifeguard towers like this one are protectors of the shoreline everywhere—places where people find peace, adventure, and connection with nature.

For over 80 years, Lifeguard Tower 5C has watched over countless lives, and that legacy inspired me to capture the feeling of calm and strength that these towers embody. As I painted, I wanted to evoke not just the beauty of the Pacific, but the energy of the surf and the quiet, powerful presence of the lifeguard tower at sunset.
